The Boston Celtics are back in action Tuesday night as they face the Miami Heat at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT. One player's status to keep an eye on ahead of tip-off is Marcus Smart, who missed Boston's last game with a right ankle sprain.

Marcus Smart Injury Update (1/24/2023)

Smart appears to be in danger of missing Tuesday's contest. Head coach Joe Mazzulla said Monday the point guard's status is "up in the air" right now to play against Miami. Mazzulla described Smart as "day-to-day" while he rehabs this ankle sprain.

The good news is Smart's injury doesn't seem to be major after he went down on Saturday in a heap of pain. The fact he's only day-to-day shows optimism he'll be back in the lineup sooner than later, but it may be too quick of a turnaround to suit up against the Heat.

This month hasn't been kind to Smart health-wise. He previously missed two games on Jan. 9 and Jan. 11 due to a left knee contusion. Now after missing Monday's contest, Smart may be out for the second straight night as he tends to his ankle issue.

Boston luckily has guard depth to survive a short absence from Smart. Derrick White and Malcolm Brogdon are both very capable of stepping up after Smart's injury, though the Celtics will certainly miss his defense as long as he's on the shelf.

Marcus Smart Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets Today

Smart isn't currently listed with any props available, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds, which is another sign his status is in jeopardy. Meanwhile, this Celtics-Heat matchup is projected at total of 217.5 points with equal -110 odds on the over and under. With Miami boasting the second-best scoring defense in the league and Boston likely down one of its top facilitators in Smart, the under could be a wise target.

Since Smart is questionable at best and Malcolm Brogdon missed Boston's last outing as well, Derrick White looks like a value play in FanDuel DFS tonight. Both guards sitting on Tuesday would open up playmaking and scoring opportunities for the veteran at starting PG. Though he's been a tad inconsistent lately, he has posted at least 25.8 FanDuel fantasy points in five of his last nine outings, including a pair of 30-plus performances. He's a strong choice to net a nice return at just a $5,700 price tag.
