VIDEO: Remembering When Sean Rodriguez Smashed the Ball Out of Mike Napoli's Mitt at Home Plate
By Max Staley

Though they've since been almost entirely taken out of the game, home-plate collisions used to be some of the most electric plays in baseball. Of course, they often led to injuries, like the one Buster Posey went through, so it's hard to say the MLB made the wrong call.
But few collisions were as impactful as this one between Sean Rodriguez and Mike Napoli in Game 4 of the 2011 ALDS.
Talk about leaving it all on the field. Rodriguez absolutely destroys Napoli when the two meet at the plate, and he even manages to pop the ball out of his mitt. That was the first run the Tampa Bay Rays scored that day, and there were two outs in the inning, making this an undeniably clutch play.
Ultimately, it didn't turn out to be enough, as the Texas Rangers clinch the series victory in this one, winning the game by a final score of, 4-3.
