The 2021 NFL Draft featured a lot of surprises and a number of life-changing selections. The Carolina Panthers made headlines when they drafted a long snapper in the sixth round (No. 222 overall). Let's just say Thomas Fletcher was beyond happy to get the call from head coach Matt Rhule.
Thomas Fletcher Panthers
This is exactly the kind of passion coaches want to see in their players. The former Alabama Crimson Tide player even went as far as to telling Rhule he will walk to Carolina if he needs to.
Fletcher is the son of former NFL long snapper Tom Fletcher and was considered the top prospect at his position. In fact, he took home the Patrick Manelly Award as the nation's top long snapper in 2020 and was part of an Alabama squad that won the National Championship.
Consistency has always been a part of Fletcher's game as he started every game he was eligible for at Alabama and was perfect on all snap opportunities in his career. He also gives his best effort on the field every time and regularly ran down with the coverage team to make a tackle.
Most times, NFL teams will not use a draft pick on a long snapper unless they plan to start him from the get-go. Fletcher could lock down a role on this Panthers team for years to come with an impressive rookie camp performance.
