The Seattle Mariners snapped a 20-year postseason drought in 2022, and the team is already making preparations to continue their momentum in 2023. While most of the offseason's attention has turned to free agency, many clubs will examine the trade market to make improvements as well.

That includes the Seattle Mariners, who are rumored to have two starting pitchers gaining interest from teams around the league.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday that starters Chris Flexen and Marco Gonzales are potential trade candidates. He cites president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto saying other teams have already called about "a number" of the club's pitchers.

Seattle was quick to lock up Luis Castillo to a lengthy contract extension and clearly views starting pitching as an area of strength, especially with Robbie Ray also under contract for several more years.

Flexen and Gonzales operated as middle-rotation players in 2022, pitching to a 3.73 and 4.13 ERA, respectively.

Dipoto went on to explain the franchise is interested more in addition rather than subtraction. “With what might be some type of pitching surplus, we will if we can put that into play to answer other needs, even in part to try and fill some of the holes we have on our team right now, which are a middle infielder and potentially two corner outfielders."
