Tom Veducci Has Bold Prediction for Who Will Win NL East

The offseason has been a long and difficult one, but the 2020 MLB season is finally upon us!

To mark the occasion, experts have been making their picks for how this unusual shortened season will play out.

At Sports Illustrated, Tom Verducci has some especially bold predictions.

Verducci selected the dark horse New York Mets to win the NL East — something they haven't done since 2015.

In fact, the Mets haven't even finished any better than third in the division since 2016. Looking at the odds to win the division on FanDuel Sportsbook the Mets rank third at +290, sitting closer to the fourth-ranked Philadelphia Phillies (+320) than the second-ranked Washington Nationals (+240) or first-ranked Atlanta Braves (+200).

Those top four NL East teams are all pretty close in the odds however, suggesting that this division is really anybody's to win (except the Miami Marlins, of course). This pick from Verducci is a bold one, and it's certainly going to rub some fans the wrong way while also getting Mets fans even more excited for Opening Day.
