The Mike McCarthy era has gotten off to a disastrous start. Not only did the Cowboys lose to the Los Angeles Rams, 20-17, Dallas also lost two key contributors for significant chunks of time. While there's optimism that linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will be able to return at some point this season, tight end Blake Jarwin was not so lucky.
After going down with a non-contact injury, Jarwin is reportedly feared to have torn his ACL. With Jarwin likely out for the season, here are three tight ends Dallas can sign to replace the fourth-year player.
3. Clive Walford
Clive Walford is the least proven name on this list, but he has flashed at times. He totaled 688 receiving yards on 11.3 yards per reception over his first two seasons in the league, though he completely fell off the map in the following three years. Still just 28 years old, Walford could be worth a flyer.
2. Charles Clay
Charles Clay had a fantastic stretch from 2013-17. Though he was never nominated to a Pro Bowl, he averaged 600.4 receiving yards and 3.6 touchdowns per year during that stretch. He's not the player he used to be, but he's a solid veteran who should be able to provide some much-needed depth at the position.
1. Delanie Walker
Speaking of veterans, few tight ends have more NFL experience than the 36-year-old Delanie Walker. Like Clay, Walker has fallen off over the past few seasons, but most of that has been due to injuries. He's actually still been reasonably effective when healthy. He recorded at least 40 receiving yards in three of his six healthy games in 2019 before getting hurt in Week 7. If he can stay on the field Walker could be a solid rotational tight end for Dallas.
