The New York Yankees are down 0-2 against the Houston Astros in the ALCS as they prepare to head back to The Bronx for Games 3, 4 and 5 of the series. The Yankees have struggled to score runs this postseason, despite ranking No. 2 in the MLB in runs scored per game this season.
While they haven't been entirely shut out, most of their runs have come via the home run, which is indicative of their regular season. What's not, however, is that for the last nine games the Yankees have failed to get hits outside of home runs. They have failed to record more than six hits in any of those games.
The greatness of this Yankees team didn't just come from their hitting though, their pitching staff was equally as dominant all season, ranking No. 3 in team ERA this season as well. And in the playoffs, their pitching has pretty much done it's job the same as the regular season, It's the bats that haven't held up their end of the bargain, specifically in timely situations.
Hitting home runs for most of your runs isn't an issue either, but there to need to be hits in between those home runs to give those home runs a better chance of being two, three or four-run home runs, instead of solo shots.
Hopefully for the pinstripes, heading back to The Bronx will wake up the bats and give them the jolt they enjoyed for much of the regular season. Being down 2-0, preparing to have their two best pitchers on the mound in those contests, these games become must wins for the Yankees.
