Texans Land Instant Starter in Todd McShay's Latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft
By Larry Rupp

There may not be a team with more needs to address in the offseason than the Houston Texans. Holes are present all over the roster, but the team does have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Todd McShay projects the Texans to use it to land an instant starter in his latest mock draft.

Texans Mock Draft
McShay has Houston lined up as the new home for Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. Yes, this means that Houston would be passing up on talents like pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu. That doesn't mean that Hamilton is a bad pick by any means, though.
The 20-year-old excelled with the Fighting Irish, totaling 138 tackles, 16 pass breakups and 8 interceptions in three seasons (31 games). Hamilton has the size to cover any sort of opposing pass-catcher in coverage and the play-making abilities to disrupt quarterbacks through the air.
Of course, any help the Texans can get on the defensive side of the ball should be greatly appreciated. Houston ranked among the bottom six NFL teams on a per-game basis in defensive categories like total yards allowed (384.4), points allowed (26.6), and yards per play allowed (5.9).
There's a reason McShay has Hamilton slated as his No. 1 overall prospect in this draft class. His leadership would certainly come in handy on a defense looking to find their identity. It'll be interesting to see what decision the Texans ultimately come to when the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 28.
