It's going to be weird for Pittsburgh Steelers fans to see someone leading the offense that isn't quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The 18-year pro retired following the 2021 season and the team must now attempt to fill in the gap. Recent odds suggest the answer may not be on the current roster, though.
Steelers Starting Quarterback
FanDuel Sportsbook put out 2022 starting quarterback odds for the Steelers and "any other quarterback" is a heavy favorite at -500. That could mean the team brings in a free agent or trades for a veteran in search of a fresh start. Drafting a new leader in April also remains a likely possibility.
No matter what, those odds check in way ahead of Mason Rudolph (+400) and Dwayne Haskins (+1200). That shouldn't come as a major shock given those they have combined to post an 8-14-1 record in their careers. Rudolph led Pittsburgh to an underwhelming tie in his only start of the 2021 season.
Pittsburgh has long been linked to players like Aaron Rodgers and Jimmy Garoppolo in the trade market. After all, the Steelers have to be an intriguing destination with the likes of Najee Harris and Diontae Johnson leading the offense. It'll be interesting to see if the front office makes a deal.
For now, all attention should turn to the upcoming NFL Draft. Pittsburgh owns the No. 20 overall pick and could attempt to solve their QB issue right then and there by selecting Malik Willis or Kenny Pickett. Those two college standouts are expected to be the first ones off the board at QB.
