Rookies are reporting to training camp for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday and veterans are set to join them next week. The team may not be done making moves, though.
The Saints are hosting running back Darius Victor, who was named the USFL Offensive Player of the Year, for a tryout.
New Orleans Saints News
Victor dominated the USFL this past season by racking up 577 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns on 127 carries for the New Jersey Generals (9-1 record). The 28-year-old employed a straight-ahead running style and used his physicality to bowl over defenders on a regular basis.
After going undrafted in 2017, Victor signed with the Saints, but failed to make the Week 1 roster. He then spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) and New York Guardians (XFL) before landing with the Generals. His career exemplifies that of a journeyman that just wants to play.
Keep in mind New Orleans is bracing for a possible suspension for starting running back Alvin Kamara due to an off the field incident in Las Vegas this offseason. Victor could act as some much-needed depth alongside Mark Ingram, Tony Jones Jr., Dwayne Washington and Devine Ozigbo.
Keep an eye on whether or not Victor's tryout results in a contract offer. The Saints have odds set at +400 to win the NFC South and odds set at +4000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. New Orleans' season kicks off with a Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
