Kevin Durant could be heading to New York in the offseason, but it might not be to the New York team most are expecting.
The current Golden State Warriors' superstar will likely win another championship with Golden State this season, but he is still rumored to take his talents elsewhere in order to boost his legacy. There would be nothing like bringing a title back to Madison Square Garden in New York, but he could helping to add a championship banner to the other starving franchise in the Big Apple.
Brooklyn Nets' forward Jared Dudley said he would be "shocked" if the Nets didn't get a sit-down with Durant.
If Durant does leave Golden State, he's expected to team up with Celtics' star point guard Kyrie Irving, which makes a potential partnership with Brooklyn both harder to believe and more enticing at the same time. Irving, who is also rumored to want to come to New York, is expected to meet with the Nets too.
However, if these two end up in Brooklyn, the Nets would have to make the tough decision of cutting D'Angelo Russell, who just brought Brooklyn back to the postseason this year for the first time since 2015.
Clearly the trade-off does favor the Nets, but it's still tough to let him walk, especially without any sort of guarantee Durant or Irving will actually sign.
If Durant does head to Brooklyn, it would automatically make this team a contender for the Eastern Conference title.
