The Las Vegas Raiders came into the 2022 season with a new offensive guru head coach in Josh McDaniels, and paired him with the acquisition of arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL in Davante Adams.

To put it nicely, things have not gone as planned. The Raiders sit at 2-6 on the season and sit last in the tough AFC West.

Will Josh McDaniels Be Fired?

These struggles have brought about questions regarding McDaniels' job security. Sure, he's still in his first season, but this is past a slow start -- it's worrisome. Nevertheless, his job security is reportedly in a strong place.

While it would be both expensive and impulsive to dismiss McDaniels in the middle of his first season, it's certainly happneed before. This team was built to win now, and if McDaniels can't do that, he might not have a job much longer than this season.

It's also not like McDaniels has some incredible track record to fall back on. Yes, he received a ton of praise and success as the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator, but his history as a head coach has been less than impressive. His first and only head coaching job prior to Las Vegas was with the Denver Broncos, where he made it a year and a half before being fired in 2010, going 11-17 in his time there.

While it seems McDaniels' job is safe for at least this season, if he starts out next season in similar fashion, I wouldn't expect owner Mark Davis to be this forgiving that time around.

The Raiders are 6-point home favorites against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, who just fired their own head coach, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
