When Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos has spent the last handful of weeks recovering from a wrist microfracture that occurred when he was hit by a pitch back on July 16. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 23 and Reds fans have been wondering when he'd return to the lineup ever since.

Fortunately, Cincinnati fans don't have to wait much longer as Reds manager David Bell announced that Castellanos is being activated from the IL on Tuesday. The veteran outfielder's return should provide a boost for the Reds as they sit 4.0 games back of the final American League Wild Card spot.

Nick Castellanos Injury Update

Castellanos was playing the best baseball of his career before getting hurt last month. So far, he's played 86 games and has recorded 18 home runs, 59 RBI and a National League-leading .329 batting average. Considering how Cincinnati has gone 9-9 since the 2021 MLB All-Star landed on the IL, it's pretty clear that they could use his bat back in the lineup.

Castellanos' reinstatement comes as the Reds are set to host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night. Fortunately, he's had a lot of success against Pittsburgh in the past. In 52 career games against the Pirates, Castellanos has 11 HRs, 42 RBI with an impressive .325/.363/.601 slash line.

FanDuel Sportsbook is heavily favoring the Reds to beat the Pirates at -250, according to the site's MLB betting odds. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh will enter the game as the +205 underdog.
