When the Baltimore Ravens face the New York Jets in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season, they must do so without an important piece of their offensive line. NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that veteran left tackle Ronnie Stanley has been downgraded to "OUT" for the first-week affair due to an ankle injury.

Stanley was on the PUP list throughout training camp and wasn't activated until the end of August. While this news is disappointing, it isn't too shocking considering he hasn't had too much time to get back into regular-season form.

Ronnie Stanley Injury Update

Stanley's ankle injury isn't anything new to him. The issue prematurely ended his 2020 season and he wound up re-aggravating it last year after the first game of the schedule. All in all, the 28-year-old's injured ankle has held him to just seven total games over the two previous campaigns.

What makes the situation worse is that it could've been avoided. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta told reporters in February that it was a "mistake" to rush Stanley back last year. Had they taken more time, he may have played more games last year and been healthy to start the 2022 slate.

Stanley was named first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in his last full-time season in 2019. He did a tremendous job at protecting Lamar Jackson that year, going 938 offensive snaps without giving up a single sack. That's the player that Baltimore needs back when he's finally healthy.

For now, Ja'Wuan James is the next LT on Baltimore's depth chart. The former first-round pick hasn't played a game since 2019 due to injury. He only played three games that year, allowing zero sacks on 63 offensive snaps while receiving a 55.6 overall Pro Football Focus grade.

Ravens vs Jets Odds

Even with Baltimore being shorthanded without Stanley this weekend, the team should be just fine. FanDuel Sportsbook still lists the Ravens as 6.5-point favorites over the Jets with -115 odds to cover the spread.
