The 2021 MLB season has been a forgettable campaign for the Texas Rangers. A 22-39 record has them at the bottom of the AL West 13.0 games back of the first-place Oakland Athletics. With Texas losing nine of their last 10 games, things aren't improving for the Rangers. In fact, things have gotten worse as they just got bad news regarding right-handed pitcher Ian Kennedy.

Kennedy was unavailable to pitch in Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants due to hamstring tightness. The Rangers then put Kennedy on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.

Ian Kennedy Injury Update

The bright spot in the injury update is that Kennedy's time on the 10-day IL will be retroactive to June 6. Considering it's just hamstring tightness and not a tear or worse, the hope is that he'll be able to return to the Rangers pitching staff sooner than later.

Kennedy has been one of the few bright spots for Texas this season. The 36-year-old veteran righty is in the middle of his best season as a reliever since moving to the bullpen in 2019. He's managed to record a 2.53 ERA in 21 appearances, striking out 25 batters through 21.1 innings. It's obviously a long shot to see the Rangers make a playoff push, but getting a healthy Kennedy back will at least make the rest of the season more palatable.

When it comes to the possibility of winning a World Series this season, the stars aren't aligning for the Rangers. Their +30000 odds to win a championship at the end of the season are in a five-way tie for the bottom spot on FanDuel Sportsbook's odds list.
