With NFL free agency rapidly approaching, teams are cutting down their rosters to free up cap space. That has added some very interesting players to this year's loaded pool of available free agents.

Pro Football Focus has projected one of this year's top available free agents to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders — former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman.

Richard Sherman Raiders

There's been no shortage of buzz linking Sherman to the Raiders this year — including some questionably-legal buzz from Jon Gruden.

There's no denying how great a fit Sherman would be in Vegas, either. He's not the corner he was in his Legion of Boom days, but an elite coverage grade of 90.1 from ProFootballFocus in 2019 and a still-decent 67.2 in 2020 shows that he still has plenty left in the tank.

And when it comes to defensive backs, the Raiders really can't afford to be too choosy. They didn't have a single cornerback post a grade better than 58.3 (Trayvon Mullen) in 2020.

The Raiders clearly have playoff aspirations, but allowing 263.3 passing yards per game (No. 7 in the NFL) is just not going to cut it if they want to compete with the AFC's elite offenses.

Signing Sherman would go a long way to shoring up that weakness.
