The Pittsburgh Pirates haven't had much to be excited about in recent years, not since the team made the playoffs back in 2015. Even this offseason, much of it has been dominated by their best player, outfielder Bryan Reynolds, requesting a trade out of Pittsburgh.

Pirates Sign Andrew McCutchen

On Friday, the team did get one positive note, though. Former MVP and Pirates legend Andrew McCutchen is returning to the Pirates on a one-year deal.

McCutchen was traded by the Pirates to the San Francisco Giants in 2018 and has since spent time with Yankees, Phillies and Brewers.

McCutchen had a solid year in 2022. While he has clearly declined from his MVP-level days, he did put up 17 home runs and 69 RBI in 134 games for the Brewers in 2022.

McCutchen is now 36 years old and could provide this young Pirates team with no only some extra outfield production and depth, but strong leadership and experience within the clubhouse.
