San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. bounced back from a shoulder injury earlier this year and has been on a tear since. The shortstop is in the thick of the NL MVP race despite missing nine games early on with a slight labrum tear that didn't require surgery.

But, Tatis Jr. being forced to leave Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds is now a cause for concern.

Fernando Tatis Jr. Injury Update

The Padres star appeared to hurt the same troublesome shoulder on a diving play and left in the fifth inning of Saturday's contest. The possibility of reaggravating that injury is certainly on the club's mind, as they removed the shortstop from the game despite his protests to stay in.

It's a good sign that Tatis Jr. wanted to keep playing after the diving attempt. Still, San Diego made the right decision to pull him for precautionary reasons to avoid making the injury worse.

Even if a minor stint on the injured list follows, the club needs to make sure Tatis Jr.'s shoulder holds up for a World Series run. San Diego owns the fourth-best odds (+850) to win the championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
