The second week of preseason games will see several teams suit up against each other in joint practices. Ahead of their preseason contest, the Green Bay Packers will host the New Orleans Saints for workouts prior to their clash on Friday at Lambeau.
Green Bay's players and coaches are already bracing for tempers to flare in this competitive environment.
Head coach Mike LaFleur has warned his team about not escalating any altercations given the risks of major injuries or penalties, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Wide receiver Allen Lazard stated matter-of-factly "there's going to be fights", but he's focused on being professional and not jeopardizing the respect of his locker room.
"You don't gain anything. You lose the respect for the people on the other side and the people in your locker room, as well. We all want to be healthy and safe."- Allen Lazard
Given how the Packers and Saints are among the best-run organizations in the league, it's fair to expect tamer practices. Both sides have big expectations for the 2022 campaign, so they'll want to come out of these workouts as unscathed as possible for Week 1.
That's not to say there won't be potential issues that pop up. Rookie Trevor Penning has already been kicked out of several practices in New Orleans for starting fights with his own teammates in the early part of camp. Hopefully he'll be on his best behavior in Green Bay, or tensions could rise.
NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook peg the Packers as 3-point favorites over the Saints ahead of Friday's matchup.
