Surprisingly, the Baltimore Orioles were one of the quieter MLB teams at the ferocious 2021 trade deadline. With a generally younger roster and the farm system already in a great place, Baltimore held pretty much to the status quo.
Despite the quiet deadline and lack of acquiring any major prospect talent, the Orioles come in at No. 2 in Baseball America's latest prospect rankings.
With the Tampa Bay Rays using Wander Franco as a full-time member of their roster, a new No. 1 prospect in all of baseball has emerged. That's Orioles switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman. A former No. 1 draft pick back in 2019, Rutschman has clearly lived up to his hype. He's been promoted to Triple-A after a stellar 80 games with the Double-A Bowie, slashing .271/.392/.508 with 18 home runs, 55 RBIs and .992 fielding percentage.
Baltimore ranks four prospects in MLB.com's top-100 list including Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez (RHP, No. 16), Heston Kjerstad (OF, No. 49) and D.L. Hall (LHP, No. 50).
Orioles fans should have a lot of hope for the future after this latest spot in the farm system rankings.
