Sitting 8-0 through heading into Week 12, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in great shape to make another run at the College Football Playoff once again this year and an ACC Championship for the first time in program history.

However, Notre Dame fans learned that they'll have to make an effort on that note without not one, but two of their key offensive linemen in this Friday's matchup with the No. 25 North Carolina Tar Heels on the road.

Having already learned of James Patterson's season-ending foot surgery this week, the Irish were struck by more bad news upon learning of Tommy Kraemer's need for an emergency appendectomy reported this Monday morning.

The good news here is that Kraemer's setback is only expected to sideline him through this week with a hopeful return for activities next week, unlike Patterson's permanent out status for the remainder of the year.

This is an especially unfortunate blow in terms of timing as well, as this road battle with UNC figures to be Notre Dame's toughest remaining game of the regular season with a real opportunity to finish undefeated staring at a clear path to the CFP.

In fact, the Irish are only 4.5-point road favorites over the Tar Heels as it stands this Monday afternoon, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
