Prior to last season, Washington Nationals' ace Max Scherzer had won back-to-back NL Cy Young awards (2016-17). Scherzer looks poised to add another award to his collection, as he's currently the favorite to take home the 2019 NL Cy Young, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Scherzer is the leader in the clubhouse right now (+300), largely thanks to his 3.26 ERA and NL-best 102 strikeouts. However, last year's winner Jacob deGrom isn't too far behind (+550).
The New York Mets' ace hasn't always looked like himself this season, but he's still managed to rack up 77 Ks, good for seventh most in the NL.
Following deGrom and Scherzer is Hyun-Jin Ryu (+650), who has been remarkably dominant thus far. Ryu has posted a 1.65 ERA through his 11 starts this season, and he's got a 62-4 K/BB ratio. Playing on the Los Angeles Dodgers also helps his case, as Ryu has seven wins, which is tied for the best mark in the NL, and looks poised to add more.
Luis Castillo (+750) has also impressed this season, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and 82 Ks, which is the third-best total in the NL.
While Scherzer is the favorite to win his third NL Cy Young in the last four seasons, there's plenty of time for pitchers like deGrom, Ryu and Castillo to make a run.
