The Brooklyn Nets have been in a battle for the top spot in the Eastern Conference throughout the 2021-22 NBA season and a big part of that has been thanks to Kevin Durant's play.
Unfortunately, it was announced Sunday that Brooklyn is set to be without the MVP contender for the next four to six weeks as he recovers from a sprained MCL. Now, Nets fans might be wondering if their star player's injury will affect the team's NBA Championship odds.
Brooklyn Nets NBA Championship
While losing Durant for any period of time is far from ideal, his latest injury hasn't affected the Nets' championship odds just yet. FanDuel Sportsbook is still favoring Brooklyn to win the 2021-22 NBA Finals at +260 odds — the same place that they were listed at in the most recent update.
Still, there's a huge void to fill during Durant's absence. The 33-year-old is currently pacing the NBA in points (29.3) for the first time since the 2013-14 season. He's also averaging 7.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game, further proving why he's one of the game's best all-around players of all time.
The Nets are fortunate that they still do have James Harden and Kyrie Irving to lean on, however, the latter is still only available for road games due to his status as an unvaccinated player. Only time will tell how much the duo steps up over the next month or so and how that will affect the team's championship odds.
In the meantime, the Nets will get their first test without Durant when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday afternoon. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing Brooklyn as the 4-point road underdog.
