The Boston Red Sox have been unable to find any sort of momentum in 2022 and sit in a perilous position in the standings. Boston trails the New York Yankees by 12.0 games in the AL East at 25-27, and the team is 1.5 games back in the Wild Card race.

The talent on the roster deems this a case of severe underperforming for a franchise used to winning. Any thoughts of entering the looming Trade Deadline as sellers is usually a foreign concept in Boston, unless things change quickly.

MLB insider Jeff Passan recently reported on the upcoming deadline and declared a staggering 11 Red Sox members who could be on the trading block come July, depending on the team's spot in the standings.

Red Sox Rumors

It should be noted, Passan mentions this as a reality only if Boston slips in the Wild Card standings. He put a proposed figure of seven or more games back by early July.

Red Sox News

The names on this list aren't exactly shocking because of their current contracts, but rather the idea that all 11 could up used for trade bait when that time comes.

Passan named nine of Boston's roster members who hit unrestricted free agency in 2023, including J.D. Martinez, Nathan Eovaldi, Kike Hernandez, Christian Vasquez, Michael Wacha, Rich Hill, Matt Strahm, Hansel Robles and Hirokazu Sawamura (who has a club option for 2023).

The other two names should come as no surprise either, mainly led by Xander Bogaerts and his underpaying long-term deal. Jackie Bradley Jr. rounds out the list.

The front office will have some tough decisions to make in the next two months of the season. Can Boston turn around their record in June? Are all 11 of these players really up for grabs? There's a lot of uneasy unknown at Fenway right now, as Passan dubbed Boston the "wild card" of trade deadline season.
