The Milwaukee Brewers have their eyes set on repeating as NL Central division champions this year, but they will have to hold off a feisty St. Louis Cardinals team in the process. Taking advantage of the upcoming trade deadline and finding underrated acquisitions could be what puts them over the top.
MLB insider Mark Feinsand expects the Brewers to be in the market for infield depth and versatile defender Brandon Drury fits the mold of a potential target. The current Cincinnati Reds' third baseman is only making $900,000 in 2022 and has one year left of arbitration eligibility at the age of 29.
Milwaukee Brewers Trade Rumors
Interest in Drury is going to increase before August rolls around given how well he is swing the bat as of late. In the month of June, the eighth-year pro is slashing .333/.378/.619 to go along with 7 home runs across 21 games. Drury's 15 HRs on the year is just one behind his career-high mark set in 2016.
As for Milwaukee, manager Criag Counsell is getting little production from infielders Jace Peterson and Luis Urias. Both players are hitting under .232 on the season and they have combined to score only 49 runs. It doesn't help that starting second baseman Kolten Wong remains on the injured list.
Drury is a cheap option that wouldn't cost much to acquire and he would bring some much-needed pop to the bottom of the lineup. It'll be interesting to see if Milwaukee makes a deal. The Brewers have the eighth-best odds to win the World Series at +1800, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
