Mike Williams Fantasy Football Value Falls With Workload Concerns Despite Being Active in Week 2

After a breakout year with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018, Mike Williams' start to the 2019 season is a bit concerning. He got banged up in a Week 1 outing that saw him notch two receptions for 29 yards, and his status for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions was in question all week.

He is officially active for the game, but his workload is expected to be severely limited – potentially only seeing the field in the red zone if this morning's report holds true.

Williams still offers some upside here, as red zone targets are obviously very valuable in fantasy and he caught 10 touchdowns last season. But the reduced workload means his value will be completely dependent on finding the end zone, giving him a very low floor without an especially impressive ceiling, either.

There will be plenty of volume to go around in the Chargers' offense with Hunter Henry on the sidelines, but Williams won't have much of an opportunity to get in on that action. Other Chargers WRs like Travis Benjamin and Dontrelle Inman will likely have to help fill the void, giving both of them a slight boost in deep leagues.

The Detroit Lions gave up 27 points against rookie Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, so we know the high-powered Chargers offense is likely in a good spot this week. However, Williams' reduced workload is just too much of a downgrade to his fantasy football value, meaning it might be smart to leave the wideout on your bench in Week 2.
