The New York Mets have been dealing with bad injury news regarding their starting pitchers throughout the 2022 MLB season. On Saturday, the club finally experience some good news regarding right-handed starter Chris Bassitt, in the form of his contract negotiations.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets and Bassitt have avoided an arbitration hearing by agreeing to terms on a one-year, $8.8 million contract.

Bassitt has been a huge part of the Mets' early success, which includes leading the NL East with a 26-14 record. The 33-year-old veteran's salary for the 2022 season is $8.65 million. Both sides can also agree to a $19 million mutual option for 2023 or opt for a $150,000 buyout instead.

Bassitt has been everything the Mets hoped he could be when they acquired him from the Oakland Athletics back in March. He's gone 4-2 in eight starts so far, racking up a 2.77 ERA, 1.089 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched.

The Mets currently own the second-best ERA (3.35) in the National League. Bassitt has finished top 10 in Cy Young voting in each of the previous two seasons and must maintain that play level if New York is going to continue its success.

Much to the Mets' delight, Bassitt is making some noise in this year's NL Cy Young race. He currently has +3500 odds (T-No. 12) to be the 2022 recipient of the award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
