Mariners Get Bad News With Erik Swanson Injury Update

The Seattle Mariners have outperformed expectations so far this MLB season and currently sit 4.5 games back in the AL West division with a record of 26-27. However, the team recently received some bad news regarding reliever Erik Swanson's latest injury update.
Tough break for Mariners reliever Erik Swanson. The MRI he had Saturday revealed more than a minor groin strain. He's going to be out beyond the 10-day IL stint.

Swanson had worked himself into high-leverage innings.
Mariners News: Erik Swanson Injury Update
Swanson was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a right groin strain. The Mariners originally thought it was a minor injury, but the timeline now points to Swanson missing more than the allotted 10 days. Reliever Will Vest was activated from the COVID-19 injured list to take his spot on the roster.
The 27-year-old hurler has been stellar so far this season and is regularly called upon in high-leverage late inning spots. He sports a 0.69 ERA and has struck out 14 batters in 13.0 innings pitched. In fact, he has allowed just 4 hits and 1 run all season long.
Seattle's bullpen has been a bright spot on the team in 2021 posting the 11th-best ERA in the MLB (3.83). Losing Swanson will definitely be tough for the team to handle, but there seems to be a lot of depth on the roster already. Swanson does join closer Kendall Graveman (0.00 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched) on the IL, though.
The Mariners remain a long shot to make the playoffs and currently have odds set at +5500 to win the AL West, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
