We have a battle of two 14-0 undefeated teams in Monday's 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship game, with the No. 3 Clemson Tigers defending their title against the No. 1 LSU Tigers at 8 p.m. EST at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

LSU vs Clemson CFP Odds

Shortly after Monday night's 2020 CFP National Championship matchup was decided on Saturday, Dec. 28, LSU opened as 6-point favorite over Clemson, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. As for the moneyline, LSU boast a -215 advantage over Clemson, who sits as a +170 underdog.

While these two programs both sit atop the betting world ahead of the 2020 CFP title, it's been a long road for each team getting to this point since their odds to win it all first opened in January 2019.

Clemson's Opening Odds to Win CFP

When the odds to win the 2020 CFP National Championship game were first released the morning after the 2019 CFP title game on Jan. 8, 2019, Clemson was sitting behind Alabama (+160) with the second-best odds in the country at +260, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Though the Tigers did boast a commanding edge in their opening odds to make the CFP at -735, compared to Alabama's -235.

Even though Clemson didn't open the offseason on top of the books, the Tigers' odds eventually surpassed the Crimson Tide (+230) for the top spot at +195 by mid-June. Clemson retained the top odds to win the CFP through the entire regular season and into the CFP, bouncing between +175 and +210 during that span.

LSU's Opening Odds to Win CFP

Unlike Clemson, LSU's odds to win it all this year opened very much so on the outside looking in tied for the ninth-best odds to win the CFP at +5000. LSU's opening odds just to make the CFP left them behind even more teams, trailing Washington (+850) for the 11th-best odds to appear in the playoff.

As the Tigers continued their unbeaten run into the later weeks, the increase in their CFP odds followed along. However, LSU didn't even surpass Ohio State for the second-best odds to win the national championship until pummeling No. 4 Oklahoma, 63-28, in the 2019 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl CFP semifinal game on Saturday, Dec. 28.

After Clemson eliminated the No. 2 Buckeyes in their leg of the CFP semifinals, LSU finally edged Clemson as the new overall betting favorite to win it all just weeks ahead of their 2020 CFP title bout.

LSU now heads into Monday night's national championship game as heavy 5-point spread favorites with a -215 advantage on the moneyline.
