After beginning the season with a heartbreaking loss to the Chicago Bears, and a more resounding one at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions have clawed their way back to 3-3 after an unlikely comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons this weekend.

Lions vs Colts Spread Week 8

Entering Week 8 with a clean slate, the Lions gear up for a home game against the 4-2 Indianapolis Colts. Oddsmakers clearly aren't buying Detroit's recent success, however, as they are currently 2.5-point underdogs at Ford Field, on FanDuel Sportsbook.

When you look at some of the Lions' wins and losses this season, there are multiple games that you can point to where the result could have flipped due to a single play. Really every single one outside of the Packers' defeat, and Jacksonville Jaguars' win. This team tends to play tight games, which can be misleading for bettors.

The Colts are similar, with multiple narrow finishes. They are coming off a bye and a slim comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6. More importantly, aside from the Chicago Bears, they have yet to beat a team with a winning record this season.

Based on each team's 2020 results, one could determine that either franchise could easily have one or two fewer wins (or more wins in the case of the Lions), had a few plays gone differently. Detroit has also faced a far superior strength of schedule so far (and most of it without Kenny Golladay), including games against the Arizona Cardinals (4-2) and New Orleans Saints (4-2), not to mention the Packers. At home, this is the Lions game to lose in Week 8, not the other way around.
