Khalil Mack is firmly planted in the conversation for the best defensive player in the entire NFL. And he showed that rare ability pretty early on, when he delivered one of the best seasons for a rookie edge rusher since 2006, according to Pro Football Focus.

However, records are made to be broken, and that's exactly what young 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa did.

While Mack received a PFF grade of 86.9 during his rookie campaign, Bosa took that a step further and had a 89.8 overall grade from PFF.

Just being within range of names like Khalil Mack, Aldon Smith and Von Miller is impressive, but to be able to grade out better than one of them? That's when you know you're on the trajectory for true greatness.

It will be up to Bosa to continue building on what he's already done, but if he keeps the same pace, he will be among the league's best for years to come.
