Karl Brooks Scouting Report
Karl Brooks caused a lot of havoc during the 2022 campaign. He finished his final season at Bowling Green with career highs in tackles (50), tackles for a loss (18.0), sacks (10.0) and defended passes (4). His 27.5 sacks over five seasons rank as the sixth-most in the MAC since 2005.
Unsurprisingly, scouts love Brooks' pass-rushing ability. He has great footwork and is strong, helping him get by blocks and through holes. Off the field, he's extremely popular among teammates and coaches, proven by the fact that he's been a team captain twice.
There's still much for Brooks to improve upon, though. His motor isn't the best and isn't all that effective in the run game, so that must be fixed. He's also used to facing a weaker talent pool in the MAC, meaning it remains to be seen if he can be as productive against tougher competition.
Karl Brooks NFL Draft Prediction
Although there isn't a consensus, it's more than likely that Brooks will be drafted near the start of Day 3. Chances are that if he was putting up his aforementioned stats with an SEC program, his draft stock would be much higher.
Nevertheless, the Chicago Bears are more than a fitting destination for the BGSU product. The Bears could use someone with Brooks' pass rush skills after finishing dead last in sacks, pressures and quarterback knockdowns.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus knows his way around a defense after spending over a decade as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach around the NFL. He could potentially unlock Brooks' next stage with the right time and development. Even if he doesn't become an impact player, the extra depth doesn't hurt.
Prediction: Chicago Bears (Round 4, 133rd overall)
