Only two teams are left without head coaches heading into next season and one of them is the Philadelphia Eagles. However, that could soon change as Josh McDaniels has emerged as a massive favorite to land the job after interviewing for the position yesterday.
The current New England Patriots' offensive coordinator has odds of -470 to become the Eagles next head coach, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's coaching odds. The top five is rounded out by Todd Bowles (+340), Duce Staley (+400), Joe Brady (+470) and Brian Daboll (+900).
Josh McDaniels Eagles Head Coach
McDaniels entered the league as the Patriots personnel assistant in 2001 before he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2005. This wouldn't be his first time as a head coach as he led the Denver Broncos to a combined 11-17 record from 2009-2010. He eventually returned to be the Patriots' offensive coordinator in 2012 and has been in that position ever since.
No one truly knows when the Eagles will announce who they are hiring. It could be as soon as this week, but they are also expected to interview Daboll and Eric Bieniemy. They wouldn't be able to do that until their respective teams (Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs) are eliminated from the NFL playoffs.
The Eagles coaching staff is in for a lot of changes after firing Head Coach Doug Pederson at the end of a 4-11-1 season. Along with the head coaching vacancy, the team does not have an offensive or defensive coordinator right now.
Is hiring Josh McDaniels the first step in securing a staff for next season? We will have to wait and see.
