The New York Giants will face off against the New England Patriots on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 6. Already on the wrong end of an apparent mismatch, the Giants will also be without a number of their offensive playmakers, particularly in the backfield. Despite the tough matchup, this could make Jon Hilliman an intriguing fantasy football sleeper.
Filling in for star running back Saquon Barkley, Wayne Gallman did a respectable job in Week 4, but he suffered a concussion in Week 5, which will sideline him against the Patriots. Barkley is healing incredibly quickly himself, but he is still unlikely to suit up on the short week, and is more likely eyeing a Week 7 return.
By default, Hilliman should be in for a big workload against the Patriots, especially after already seeing 19 carries and two targets over his last two games.
New England is one of only two teams holding opposing running backs to a single-digit fantasy point per game average (9.6 in standard scoring) in 2019. The Giants are also expected to trail in this game, as 16.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook, so we certainly shouldn't expect any sort of efficiency from Hilliman.
Hilliman is set to dominate what rushing volume the Giants will muster this week though, and in a pass-heavy game he could also see a fair number of targets out of the backfield (Gallman recorded seven in Week 4, Barkley had at least five in each of his three games). He's still not more than flex option this week, but Hillman could be a viable starter for fantasy owners with limited options in Week 6.
