New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner sat down with team insider Meredith Marakovits for an exclusive interview that aired Monday on the YES Network. He discussed some various talking points on the upcoming offseason, but none bigger than the future of Aaron Judge.

Judge put together a historic season after very publicly turning down the Yankees' low-ball extension offer a year ago, and set himself up to be the highest paid free agent of the 2023 class.

Yankees fans are hopeful that not only will Steinbrenner reach a long-term deal with the superstar outfielder, but name him the next team captain. Steinbrenner revealed his thoughts on the situation during this interview.

Steinbrenner remained optimistic about reaching a deal with Judge, describing their multiple conversations as "very positive." He also indicated naming Judge captain “is something we would consider."

This seems like a no-brainer. There's been no player since Derek Jeter to carry himself with both the elite on-field performances, the media presence and overall locker room leadership as Judge. It's just a matter of paying the superstar exactly what he deserves.
