The San Francisco Giants are trying to keep pace in a deep NL West division. They find themselves in third place behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres despite a successful 35-26 start.
Not only is the organization enjoying some winning ways at the professional level, but they tout a pair of top-50 prospects across all of baseball. Unfortunately, the Giants' No. 1 prospect has recently suffered a lower back injury and will be shut down temporarily to heal up.
Marco Luciano Injury Update
The Giants announced Marco Luciano will rehab at the team's facility in Arizona and won't participate in baseball activity for a couple of weeks.
The news is especially disappointing given the 20-year-old shortstop's sharp start to his 2022 campaign with High-A Eugene. Luciano slashed .288/.360/.507 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs across 40 games.
MLB.com projects Luciano to make his professional debut in 2023, meaning a quick rise for the talented playmaker. The naturally powerful swinger rates as the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball.
The Giants will hope for a speedy recovery and that Luciano can get back out on the field to continue his development.
