The San Francisco Giants are currently third in the NL West Division to start the 2022 MLB season, however, a 13-7 record has them sitting only 0.5 games out of first place. In order to help them in their divisional title race, the Giants have added some more infield depth with their latest trade.

The Giants made a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon, acquiring infielder Mike Ford in exchange for cash considerations. San Francisco is returning outfielder Ka'ai Tom to Triple-A Sacramento to make room for the deal.

This marks the second infielder San Francisco acquired from Seattle this week.

All 101 of Ford's career MLB games came from playing in a New York Yankees uniform from 2019 to 2021. Although he produced a solid 17 home runs and 41 RBIs over that stretch, his .199/.278/.283 slash line shows that there's room for improvement.

Nevertheless, Ford has looked great playing first base for Triple-A Tacoma this season. In 41 at-bats over 11 games, the 29-year-old has recorded a pair of HRs and five RBIs while batting .317.

The Giants placed starting first baseman Brandon Belt on the 10-day injured list on Friday after he tested positive for COVID-19. The club will likely give Ford a chance to fill the former's void, leaving time to tell if he takes advantage of the opportunity.

The Giants have already confirmed that Ford will be active when they face the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon. FanDuel Sportsbook is listing San Francisco as the -220 moneyline favorite, while Washington is the +184 underdog on the road.
