The Toronto Raptors will be without their starting guard Fred VanVleet when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
VanVleet left Friday's blowout win over the Golden State Warriors after he came down awkwardly after shooting a three-pointer. He did not practice on Sunday and missed Toronto's Monday night win over the Washington Wizards with a strained left hip flexor.
An MRI done on the weekend did come back clean on the plus side, and VanVleet himself downplayed the injury, but hip flexors can be tricky.
At this point, it's unclear how much time the Raptors' second-leading scorer will miss for a team already with a bunch of backcourt injuries. Kyle Lowry will miss his fourth straight game with a foot injury, and Rodney Hood will miss his third in a row with a hip injury.
With VanVleet and his fellow guards on the shelf, rookie Malachi Flynn will get another entire run after filling the stat sheet against Washington. Flynn played 34 minutes, coming up with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists to go along with a ridiculous four steals and three blocks. The 22-year-old should be a popular add with a $5,100 price tag at FanDuel. He's also available in 75 percent of fantasy leagues, so he's definitely worth adding with the Raptors' injury issues.
Gary Trent Jr. will also see all the usage he can handle for the shorthanded squad on the second leg of a back-to-back.
