The Los Angeles Chargers kicked off their preseason schedule with a 13-6 win over the Los Angeles Rams. They faced some tough decisions right after, though, with the first training camp cut date approaching.
Chargers Training Camp News
The Chargers have made their first round of cuts to get down to 85 players.
Chargers Training Camp Cuts
Los Angeles released the following three players on Monday to get down to the 85-man roster size: punter Lachlan Edwards, kicker Alex Kessman and wide receiver Michael Bandy.
Kessman and Bandy went undrafted in 2020 and 2021, respectively, so their releases aren't that noteworthy — especially after failing to make an impact in training camp as of late or the first preseason game. Meanwhile, Edwards was actually the NFL's punting yards leader in 2019, however, he spent last season on the Chargers practice squad and was outperformed by third-year punter Ty Long against the Rams.
NFL Cut Down Dates 2021
Here's the full list of when cuts will need to be made during the preseason.
Teams will trim down to 80 players on Aug. 24, and down to 53 players on Aug. 31.
