The current NFL offseason has brought us a myriad of interesting transactions, although, one of the more interesting ones occurred Friday in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles' latest signing.

The Eagles announced Friday that they have signed former Olympic hurdler Devon Allen to a contract for the 2022 NFL season. Although the 27-year-old might be unknown to some football fans, spent 2014 to 2016 playing college football as a wide receiver for the Oregon Ducks.

Allen began his time at Oregon on a solid note, finishing his first season with 41 receptions across 14 games for 684 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, injuries held him to just nine games over the next two years where he tallied a 13-235-1 stat line.

Allen put his football aspirations aside in 2016 when he qualified for a Team USA roster spot at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Although he didn't medal, he still finished fifth in the 110 meters hurdles before placing fourth in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Even though it has been six years since his last football game, Allen told the Eagle's website that he's confident in his abilities and that he is "talented enough to play in the NFL." Philadelphia sure could use his speed in the aerial game after averaging just 202.7 passing yards per contest in 2021 (No. 21).

We'll know more about Allen's ability to make Philadelphia's roster as we get closer to training camp. Until then, Eagles fans will turn their attention to the 2022 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday, April 28.
