Heading into the offseason, new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has preached the importance of competition throughout the roster. Sirianni wants his players to feel as they're competing for snaps leading into the 2021 NFL Season. This goes for pretty much every position, except Jalen Hurts and the quarterback company.

Jalen Hurts Quarterback Competition

According to one Eagles insider, this sense of competition applies to every single other player on the roster besides Hurts. The insider, Eliot Shorr-Parks, went through and analyzed the biggest competitions at each position.

There is a competition at quarterback, however this surrounds the backup option for Hurts. According to Shorr-Parks, the quarterback competition will be fueled by Joe Flacco and Jamie Newman in attempt to land the No. 2 role behind Hurts.

Flacco was signed in free agency this offseason and that money will certainly play a factor. However, Flacco is much more of a pocket passer with limited mobility compared to Newman. If Hurts is sidelined, due to injury or other factors, then Newman offers an easier transition in terms of style of offensive attack.

On the other hand, Flacco is the seasoned veteran. He owns 13 seasons of NFL experience and the 2013 Super Bowl title with the Baltimore Ravens.

As it stands, the Eagles own +550 odds to win the NFC East next season, according to NFL odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook.
