The 2018-19 NBA season was not kind to Dion Waiters, as he suited up for just 44 games due to a prior ankle injury.
One of the toughest things Waiters had to deal with this past season was his weight, as he struggled to rehab back into game shape following ankle surgery. As a result, Waiters became the subject of scrutiny on social media, which didn't go unnoticed by the seven-year NBA vet.
Interesting message from Dion Waiters tonight on his Instagram. He clearly heard and read the jokes about his weight. These guys are human. Social media can be a cruel place. pic.twitter.com/GsvHXvM56O

Waiters took to Instagram to discuss the struggles he went through last season, describing it as "one of the most depressing and frustrating times of my life." Instead of paying much attention to his online critics, however, Waiters decided to focus on getting back into shape.
If the new picture he posted on Instagram is any indication, Waiters has certainly put in the work this offseason and still has three months to go before the 2019-20 NBA season tips off.
Dion Waiters told me last November he saw all the social media jokes about his weight gain.

Waiters will likely be tasked with a more significant role on a new-look Miami Heat team, which added Jimmy Butler, but also lost key players like Josh Richardson, Hassan Whiteside and Dwyane Wade. Waiters will also likely be coming off the bench for Miami, but he should provide a scoring punch as a sixth man.
Perhaps Waiters' new revenge bod will assist his comeback for the upcoming NBA season. We'll have to wait and see how his workout progress holds up, of course, once the Heat are back on the floor.
