The Dallas Cowboys' defense shined once again during their Week 7 win. Unfortunately, this top unit saw one of its key members go down on Sunday, as cornerback Jourdan Lewis departed with an apparent foot injury.
The latest update on Lewis is crushing news for Dallas.
Lewis sustained a Lisfranc injury on Sunday and will require season-ending surgery as a result. It's an extremely disappointing end to his year, especially after the injury happened right after he recorded his first interception of 2022.
The veteran was a key part of the Cowboys' reenergized defense last season, starting 13 games and racking up a career-high 3 INTs and 11 passes defensed. He was off to a quieter start this year, but he was also slowed down by a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the team's Week 4 win over Washington.
Lewis' absence could thrust rookie DaRon Bland into the starting slot role for this defense. He played a season-high 80% of the team's snaps in place of Lewis in Week 4, and he even came away during that contest.
Hopefully Dallas is able to lean on its depth in the wake of Lewis' injury. Thankfully their second-half schedule isn't as grueling, with the Chicago Bears next on tap in Week 8. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds project the Cowboys as a huge 10.5-point favorite ahead of that matchup.
