Cam Newton Injury Update Suggests He Can Be Dropped in Fantasy Football Leagues

Cam Newton hasn't seen the field since Week 2, and it appears Carolina Panthers fans won't see him again in 2019, as the team has placed him on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Panthers have placed Newton on IR due to a foot injury that has bothered him all throughout the season. Even when Newton did play in 2019, he didn't look like himself, completing 56.2 percent of his passes, which is second-worst mark of his career. It's officially safe to drop Newton in fantasy football leagues.

That also means that Kyle Allen will likely remain the Panthers starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Allen has been solid, if not spectacular, in relief of Newton, throwing for 215.2 passing yards per game while tossing nine touchdowns to four interceptions and leading Carolina to a 4-1 record.

With Allen now firmly entrenched as the team's starter, most of Carolina's skill-position players fantasy value should be relatively unchanged going forward.

The only real downgrade goes to DJ Moore, who seemingly had much more upside with Newton at the helm. Moore saw 24 targets over the first two games of the season, tied for the third most in the NFL during that span, but he's only averaged 7.3 per game with Allen under center.

Moore always had some upside when Newton's return was still a possibility, so this likely caps his ceiling a bit.

Still, Allen has shown enough to prove that the Panthers should remain a competitive team, and Christian McCaffrey looks poised to continue his MVP campaign.

Allen didn't crack the top 12 in our Week 10 fantasy football PPR rankings, but Moore clocks in at WR30 and McCaffrey is our RB1.
