Calvin Johnson is both one of the greatest players in Detroit Lions history and one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. Ever since his surprise retirement in 2016 there has been beef between him and the Lions, however.

It all stemmed from the team attempting to recoup a portion of Johnson's signing bonus with his early retirement -- something they were in their right to do, but also something most teams pass on with their most beloved or storied players.

Johnson's issue seemed to be more with then-team president Rob Wood. Now, Detroit COO Mike Disner is the one calling the shots and trying to mend the relationship with Johnson, and it sounds like it's working.

In a recent interview with Jim Rome, Johnson provided an update on his relationship with the Lions, and it's clear things are trending in the right direction.

Johnson makes it clear that there are still some things to be hashed out, but judging by his tone and excitement things are on track for him to once again become involved in the organization he spent his entire career with.

The Hall of Fame receiver is right in the sense that he has a lot to offer young players, both on and off the field. Johnson was one of the most insanely talented wideouts ever and was always a model person and teammate in the locker room and the community. He was the type of star player every organization dreams about having.

Detroit should be doing everything it can to get him back in the building, even in retirement.
