Quarterback Tom Brady has been notably absent from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, but fans should not be worried any longer. The seven-time Super Bowl champion returned to the field on Monday and head coach Todd Bowles said Brady will start in the team's preseason finale on Saturday.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preseason
Bowles explained that every starter healthy enough to suit up will see some game action. A matchup against the Indianapolis Colts is being seen as a "ramp up" for the start of the regular season. The Colts are also expected to play most of their starters during the first half, so expect some fireworks.
While Brady has yet to publicly address his absence, Bowles was quick to say the All-Pro talent didn't miss anything important. It also didn't impact his ability to control the offense, either. Starting tight end Cameron Brate said Brady was "firing on all cylinders" in his first practice back with the team.
Brady appeared in 18 snaps during Tampa Bay's third preseason game in 2021, so it's safe to say he'll be in for at least a few series. Expect Blaine Gabbert to see some playing time after that before giving way to Kyle Trask. Trask is 36-of-57 for 363 yards and 1 touchdown (2 interceptions) this preseason.
The Buccaneers are slated as a 2.5-point road underdog on Saturday with odds set at +135 on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium and will be broadcasted on local television. Keep an eye on how the G.O.A.T. performs.
