The New Orleans Saints will have a new starting quarterback this week with Drew Brees dealing with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. After remaining relatively quiet about the decision, Saints head coach Sean Payton announced that Taysom Hill will start in Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons.
While Payton's decision puzzled some, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians sees why Hill would earn the start.
Arians obviously believes in Hill's passing abilities more than others. Hill has, so far, appeared for the Saints as a running option, seeing 3.8 attempts per game. He has only thrown 5 total passes in the 9 games he's played in this season.
When Brees was knocked out of last week's win against the San Francisco 49ers, it was Winston whom Payton chose to have take over. Winston threw 10 passes, completing 6 of them for 63 yards in his mop-up duty appearance.
Arians' comments are especially intriguing given that Winston started all 16 games for the Bucs last season, totaling over 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns. It is Winston's experience as an NFL quarterback that many assumed gave him the edge in the Saints' QB decision.
