Coming off a disappointing 2019 campaign, the Cleveland Browns have done an excellent job addressing their needs on offense. They brought in a top-tier right tackle in Jack Conklin and added Austin Hooper, one of the best pass-catchers at his position.
The defense is another story, though. Cleveland finished the 2019 season as the league's third-worst run defense, per Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics. And that unit looks poised to be a lot worse in 2020, as both Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey have already left via free agency.
If the Browns want to address their run defense, signing Ndamukong Suh might be their best bet.
While Suh fell off as a pure pass-rusher last season, he's still an extremely effective run-stuffer. He received a 74.4 grade as a run defender from Pro Football Focus, putting him inside the top-15 interior lineman who played at least 600 snaps.
He could form a really intimidating one-two punch with DT Sheldon Richardson, who posted a similarly effective 75.1 grade as a run defender last year.
Linebacker will still be an issue for this team going forward, but adding a legitimate run-stuffer like Suh could help patch up a really ineffective run defense. Set to play the Baltimore Ravens twice per year, that's arguably more important than ever for the Browns.
