Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons won't be playing anytime soon.

The Broncos announced on Wednesday that Simmons is heading to the IR with a quad injury, which will keep him out at least four games.

Justin Simmons Injury Update

Denver Broncos News

This is rough news for both Simmons and the Broncos, who are still reeling from their embarrassing Week 1 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

The former Pro Bowler, who has been a mainstay on Denver's defense since debuting in 2016, will miss his first game since 2017. This is a significant blow to the Broncos' unit, as Simmons is one of the team's best and most reliable defenders.

While Denver should still be able to take care of business against the Houston Texans in Week 2, the schedule gets much tougher after that. In addition to being unavailable for this week's contest, Simmons will also miss upcoming games against the San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, if not more.

In other words, the Broncos better bank their first win this week as 9.5-point home favorites against the Texans on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. Because if they don't, it might take awhile before they get in the win column.
