Bleacher Report Projects Falcons Sign Intriguing Free-Agent CB
With NFL free agency rapidly approaching, teams are cutting down their rosters to free up cap space. That has added some very interesting players to this year's loaded pool of available free agents.
Bleacher Report has projected one of these recent cuts to sign with the Atlanta Falcons — former New Orleans Saints cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Despite having an offense loaded with weapons, the Falcons' defense often cost the team wins during the 2020 season, so investing in that side of the ball would be a smart move for Terry Fontenot as he takes over in Atlanta. With Jenkins being a cap casualty victim, Fontenot could steal from his former team and get the Falcons a veteran to lead their secondary.
At 32 years old, Jenkins still made an impact during 2020, registering 12 passes defensed and 3 interceptions (including a pick-six) along with 55 combined tackles. He earned a ProFootballFocus grade of 67.4 for his campaign, which easily outpaced Atlanta's incumbent CBs in A.J. Terrell (60.8), Isaiah Oliver (58.8) and Kendall Sheffield (40.3).
Most conerbacks don't age gracefully, and that could steer some suitors away from Jenkins this offseason, making him a potentially afforadble option. That's good news for Atlanta, who needs to find impact players on a budget, with the team currently $8.2 million over the cap.
With Matt Ryan and Julio Jones set to return in 2021, the Falcons still have a shot at contending with the right moves. Solidifying their secondary with a CB like Jenkins is exactly the kind of signing that could help the team rebound next season.
